I first met Sarah and Danny during their engagement session with me and even then, it was clear how effortless their connection is. Fast-forward to their elopement day - it was a beautiful and sunlit March afternoon in Richmond, Virginia. They gathered close family for a heartfelt celebration of their love story.


A Beautiful Elopement in Richmond, VA

Sarah and Danny chose to elope privately, just the two of them, before bringing their closest family together to celebrate. Their day began at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) — one of Richmond’s most iconic and artful backdrops for wedding and elopement photography.


The museum’s elegant architecture and serene outdoor spaces set the tone for a day that was both intimate and full of joy. Surrounded by parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and their sweet little niece, the couple basked in the genuine warmth of their loved ones. There were tight hugs, laughter echoing against marble walls, and so many tender little moments that made photographing them feel effortless.

The VMFA grounds truly came alive that afternoon. The early March air carried just a touch of spring, and the light filtered softly through the trees — the kind of light every Richmond wedding photographer dreams of.

Sarah’s gown caught the sunlight in all the right ways as she walked hand-in-hand with Danny through the museum gardens. Their families shared toasts, stories, and quiet moments that spoke volumes about their closeness. From grandparents sharing smiles to their niece twirling in the sunlight, every moment was infused with genuine emotion.

After the family celebration, Sarah and Danny stayed behind for their bridal portraits around the museum. We explored the VMFA’s stunning outdoor spaces — the sculpture garden, reflecting pools, and the modern architectural lines that make this location such a dream for Richmond elopement photography.

Their chemistry was undeniable. There was such an ease between them — laughter, soft whispers, moments of reflection. Every frame felt cinematic, capturing not just how the day looked, but how it felt.


West Coast Provisions for Cocktail Hour & Formal Dinner


After the family had departed from the museum, Sarah, Danny, and I continued making memories through bridal portraits. We laughed and danced around the museum as we continued creating those keepsakes to show their future children (which they shared that they are DREAMING of that day!). We then met the rest of their loved ones at Wests Coast Provisions restaurant for a cocktail hour and formal dinner that was perfect beyond belief! They had a Characture artist, the most fun staff, and the most delicious cake from Tous Les Jours. A truly remarkable way to end the evening.


From their intimate elopement to their family celebration at the VMFA, to the dessert during the formal dinner, every detail reflected exactly who they are — warm, artistic, and deeply connected.
